Strategic Planning vs Business Planning
Most ports create an annual operating budget that is shaped from the port’s “business plan”, that in turn, is intended to reflect the port’s multi-year “strategic plan”. However, in the annual rush to complete the “planning process”, the strategic direction of an organization can often become blurred, or even misplaced, amid the repetitive and administrative exercise of completing “The Plan”. Without a clear and sustained focus on “strategy”, any port or organization can fall victim to failure. While a good “business plan” can support a good organization; a truly great and successful organization stays focused on a bold and courageous “strategy”.
