John White is a highly experienced and dedicated leader with over eight years of service to the Snuneymuxw First Nation Marine Division, the last two years in a critical management role. Renowned for his strong work ethic, John consistently demonstrates his ability to manage complex projects, multitask effectively, and work long hours to ensure the success of every initiative. His passion for protecting Snuneymuxw’s territorial waters and environment drives his commitment to preserving cultural heritage, protecting marine ecosystems, and ensuring food security for future generations.
Under John’s leadership, the Marine Division has grown significantly, increasing the Snuneymuxw presence in marine environments while securing vital partnerships with organizations such as Nature Trust of British Columbia, British Columbia Conservation Federation, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Pacific Salmon Foundation, Nanaimo River Hatchery, Coastal Restoration Society, Canadian Coast Guard, Transport Canada, Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) TMX and Parks Canada. His efforts have been pivotal in advancing initiatives such as salmon enhancement, marine emergency response, coastal restoration, integrated ocean management, and the Ocean Protection Plan.
John is not only an exceptional project manager but also an inspiring people leader. He fosters a positive, collaborative work environment, motivating his team to achieve excellence while building solid relationships with partners who share the Snuneymuxw vision. His hands-on approach and deep expertise in marine conservation have earned him widespread respect within the community.
John’s dedication to the Snuneymuxw community is unwavering and extends beyond his professional role. As part of his humanitarian work, he coaches local youth basketball and takes school students on tours, educating them about the ecosystem and the importance of preserving their traditional territory. His passion for passing on the values of conservation and cultural preservation makes him an exceptional role model for future generations.
