Session #5: Green Marine International: Advancing Environmental Excellence in the port sector
Launched in North America 17 years ago, Green Marine is the maritime industry’s voluntary initiative aimed at advancing environmental excellence beyond regulatory requirements. Its successful model, built on transparency, collaboration, and rigour, has enabled it to become the largest sustainability initiative in the Canadian and American maritime sectors. In 2020, this certification was introduced to Europe under the name Green Marine Europe. David Bolduc will discuss what sets Green Marine apart and how its approach contributes to sustainable development in the port sector. He will also outline plans to potentially extend the certification globally, following recent governance changes and the establishment of Green Marine International. This newly formed corporation oversees both the Green Marine and Green Marine Europe environmental certification programs.
